Omaha, Nebraska window treatment
A Perfect Touch Painting can help to address any questions, comments, or concerns that our clients may have, and will be more then happy to do so.
Some of the most noticeable flaws in siding, after the hail storm, that we are encountering are that either the paint has weakened or chipped in the actual siding. One of the easiest ways to fix this siding problem, without replacement, is to install a new layer of paint. The reason we, as Omaha, Nebraska painters, suggest this, is that we know that paint, on the exterior of your home, acts as an armor against Mother Nature.
On all the houses that we have worked on since the storm, the most common areas to fix are the windows, glazing, trim on porches, decks, and the actual siding itself. As a quality painter, not quantity painter in Omaha, I am willing to discuss with you possible remedies for your siding problems. I will discuss topics that deal directly with siding issues. I believe in honesty and fair dealings. I offer this information to you, so that you may become more aware of the situation you are facing. Doing it yourself may seem as an easy and cheap alternative, but only if the steps are followed correctly and accurately. I am not suggesting that fixing your siding problem can or should be done easily by you. I am however giving you honest information from Omaha's Most Loyal Painting Contractor.
If you are a homeowner and you are wanting to properly fix your siding damage, then I, as a painting contractor in Omaha, suggest that you start with the window caulking. First assess the damage to determine if all the caulking is going to be replaced. Next use painter's tool called a 5 in 1 and a razor knife to scrape out any damaged caulk around your windows.
Starting in a corner and working your way around the window, in a circular fashion, will most likely be the easiest way. By preceding this way you, will be subconsciously establishing a work pattern. By using patterns and finely tuned methods, on all of our job sites, we are able to get the projects done in a timely manner and on budget. When finished scraping, be sure to inspect the area around the windows, to insure that all extra bits of caulking have been removed. This will allow the next step to be done accurately and efficiently.
Next, make sure that you have a drip-less caulking gun. You can purchase this type of caulking gun at your nearest tool supplier, or your closest paint supplier. There are many types of caulk available. The type required for this project is a Window and Trim Caulk. I, as a Nebraska painting contractor suggest that you take a new razor knife and cut off the very tip of the tube at a 45 degree angle. The reason for this, is that an angled cut allows for a smoother, straighter line. When doing this make for sure that the hole is no larger then one eighth of an inch (1/8").
Now that you are setup to caulk in your exposed cracks around your windows I would start in the corner that you started for the removal process.Angle you arm slightly, so that the angled cut is fit right into the crack. Gently squeeze the caulking gun trigger and move along the seam at a decent pace. Try not to get too far ahead of yourself. If you caulk in the whole window and do not move fast enough you will find that your caulking is hardening and will not spread easily or evenly. Use a wet rag or tile and grout sponge to remove excess caulk.
Once you get the caulking installed you are ready to scrape, prime, and paint your windows. First use an exterior primer to cover the surface area of the exposed wood. This is very important because the top coat will not bond properly if no primer is installed. The next procedure is to paint the top coat over the primer and over the entire surface area of the window. The easiest way to paint the sashes, if you have any, is to slop the paint in all the cracks and spread it later.
*Do not worry if you get paint on the panes of glass because a sharp razor scraper will remove anything with ease.*
